Terms of use

Introduction

These are the terms for using AdvancedLinkTraining.com. They are written in plain English because terms nobody can read protect nobody.

It is free to read

Everything here is free, with no signup, no account, no trial and no restriction. All fifty lessons, all thirty-four tactic profiles, every guide, the glossary and the nine checklists are available to anyone who arrives, without telling me who you are. There is no tier you are missing and no version of these pages that costs money.

You may quote it, with attribution

You may link to any page here, freely and without asking. You may quote reasonable extracts in your own articles, posts, newsletters, slide decks, training material or internal documentation, provided you attribute the source and link back to the page you took it from. You may print pages, hand the checklists to your team, or use the material as the basis of internal training. You may cite the figures from the link decay analysis in your own work, as long as you say where they came from and do not restate them as your own findings. None of that requires permission from me, and I would rather you did it than not.

You may not republish it wholesale or resell it

Copying entire pages, lessons, tactic profiles or guides and publishing them elsewhere — on your own site, in a paid product, in a book, behind a signup form, or as training material you sell — is not permitted, whether or not it is attributed. Nor is feeding the site wholesale into a product you charge for and presenting the output as your own reference. The distinction is simple: quote it, cite it and build on it freely; do not take it and present it as your own inventory. If what you want to do sits near the line, write and ask. The answer is usually yes, and it is faster than guessing.

No warranty of any kind

The material is provided as it is, without warranty of any kind, express or implied. I have tried hard to be accurate and to say plainly when something is uncertain or disputed, but I do not warrant that the content is complete, current, error-free or suited to your particular purpose, and I am not liable for losses arising from decisions you make after reading it. That includes lost rankings, lost traffic and lost revenue.

Search engines change, and safety changes with them

This is the specific reason the warranty above cannot be given honestly. Search engines revise their guidelines, change enforcement priorities, and occasionally reclassify an entire category of link without announcing it. A tactic that is defensible today can become a liability after a policy change, and a tactic that stopped working can start working again. Everything on this site describes mechanisms as they operate at the time of writing. Where I expect something to move, the page says so; where I did not see it coming, the page will be wrong until I update it.

The risk grades are informed opinion, not guarantees

Every tactic on this site carries a risk grade — safe, situational, high risk or obsolete. Those grades are my judgment, made under my own name, about how a mechanism stands against published guidance at a point in time. They are not certifications, not legal opinions, and not promises about how any search engine will treat your site. A tactic graded safe can still damage you if it is executed badly or at absurd volume. A tactic graded high risk will not necessarily produce a penalty tomorrow. Read the grade together with the reasoning on the profile, which is there so you can disagree with me on the merits.

Nothing here is legal, financial or professional advice

This site teaches a discipline. It is not consulting, and reading it does not create a client relationship, a professional engagement or any duty on my part toward your particular situation. Nothing here is legal, financial, tax or regulatory advice, and nothing here is a recommendation tailored to your business. Several subjects the course touches — disclosure of paid arrangements, advertising rules in regulated professions, contracts with vendors — have real legal dimensions that vary by jurisdiction and by industry, and those are questions for a qualified professional who can see your specifics.

What you do to your own site is your responsibility

You decide what to do with your website. If you run a campaign described here, hire a vendor, buy a placement, upload a disavow file or restructure your internal linking, the outcome is yours. I cannot see your site, your history, your market or what a previous agency did to you, and material written for everybody cannot account for any of that. Where the decision involves real revenue, have somebody look at the specifics before you act.

Third parties

Where this site names a tool, a platform or a company, that is description rather than endorsement, and no commercial arrangement is implied. Nobody has paid for a mention, a ranking or an omission anywhere on this site, and there are no affiliate links. My role as a Majestic Brand Ambassador is disclosed on the about page and on the disclaimer page. Sites linked from here are outside my control and governed by their own terms and their own privacy practices.

Reporting an error

If a page is wrong, tell me and I will correct it. That applies to factual errors, broken methods, stale descriptions of how a tool behaves, and risk grades you think are misjudged. Use the contact page, name the page and quote the passage, and if you are disputing a judgment rather than a fact, say what you would put in its place. Corrections are made to the page itself rather than appended as a note at the bottom, because the point is for the next reader to get the right version.

Changes to these terms

These terms may be updated as the site is. The current version is the one that applies, and material changes will be described here plainly rather than slipped in.
